For this photograph, I used my 105 mm Macro Lens specifically designed for close-up photogrphy.  I started out photographing several lupine and continued to fine tune the composition until I was left with this single lupine with the muted colors of the other lupine behind it.  I was able to achieve the muted background by using manual controls and setting my camera at F2.8.

 According to my instructor, Keith, this combination of Indian Paintbrush and Columbine is not usual.  Therefore, I feel blessed to have witnessed this uniqueness.  However, this combination and composition remind me of one of my inspirational  verses that I wrote several years ago.  “The colors of the earth blend together so harmoniously.  The colors of humanity deserve the same respect and harmony.”  The process of nature photography continues to be a natural source of inspiration for me to acknowledge and respect all life.

I was hiking on a path with the beauty and abundance of wildflowers around me everywhere.  Suddenly, my head spontaneously turned and my vision basked in the glory of this beautiful set of columbine.  If was as if its energy, its soul essence spoke to me.  I just knew that I had to photograph these columbine and I hope that I have captured the beauty of their “soul essence.” They are truly majestic to me.

Whenever I am emotionally upset or out of balance, I try to remind myself to “change my position” to perceive the situation a little differently for resolution.  However, it is a concept that I have learned from my photography adventures.  In this instance, my instructor reminded me to look, think and perceive differently with this beautiful set of columbine.  By doing so, I was able to view the essence of the flower differently and capture new dramatic and changing light.  Nature photography, and my creative adventures, continue to be my greatest teachers.

I look at these rock formations and think character development – specifically courage.  Their strength and magnificence await the challenges of life and the elements of nature.  Photographically, the image has good color saturation and the trees in the foreground add a dimension of depth of field to the image.

If we really look around us, we will discover beauty, peace, eloquence within the most simple landscape.  To me, it is a mirror image of what we can find within ourselves.  This is the natural inspiration of nature.

I love the dynamics and design of this cliff dwelling architecture.  One is left to wonder and be amazed with the creativity of humanity.

This cliff dwelling window reminds me of a “window of the soul.”  I can only imagine the past history of those who lived within and acknowledge their heritage. 

A nice element of this photograph is the black – which still has detail.   Looking closely, you can see the detail of the back interior wall.  On some level, it reveals the depth and character of its former residents.
