“Backlit Surprise”
When you are out walking or photographing nature, look at how light strikes the back of images. As in these scenes, sometimes you will be surprised by the brilliance. It is a reminder of our own potential in the world. It is a reminder that nature can be a source of inspiration for us to recognize the brilliance of our own souls.

“The Wow Factor”
The Rockies experienced an extraordinary amount of snow this winter (more than the past 25 years). I have often made reference to the use of shutter speed in my blog posts. With this photograph, I intentionally tried to stop the action to try to capture the intensity and power of the spring runoff. The sound of the rushing water was incredible and, again, I was reminded to respect nature and to be inspired by landscape photography.

“Frozen in Time”
I really love this photograph. As you can tell, I used a very fast shutter speed to stop the action of the water cascading around the stone. I photographed several images and, of course, each one was different as nature changes each moment. However, with this image the water is frozen in time as it embraces the stone.

“Rocky Mountains – Summer 2011″
It is Summer, 2011, and the Rocky Mountains still have an incredible amount of snow on them. Recently, I drove up the Trail Ridge Road. About 2/3 of the way to the tundra area, there was a wall of snow over 20 feet high. I can only say “Wow!”

“Inspirational Photography”
The Rocky Mountains have inspired many for years. I think of early pioneers and the first people to climb the Rockies and Long’s Peak. It must have been breadth-taking to discover such majesty and to achieve such a feat. I also ponder the women pioneers who were inspired to create adventures in the Rockies. Isabella Bird is one such pioneer and her journey is a great read in the book: “A Lady’s Life in the Rockies.” Today, I still behold in awe the beauty of this very sacred and spiritual landscape.

“Strength with Compassion”
The summer tundra flower landscape adds a feeling of gentleness to the strength of these mountains. The mountains seem to call us to action to make a difference in our world. Yet, the earth seems to be telling us that it is ok to display strength with compassion. Be determined with your compassion. Have the courage of your convictions and choose to make a difference for one person, for the earth, for humanity.

“San Juan Mountains – Imogene Pass”
This is landscape photography at its best. The sweeping majestic view shows the summer tundra color. Cold and wind dominate this landscape that is treeless in form. Yet, the mountains clearly identify the character traits of strength, courage, determination, perseverance and faith.

“Growing Antlers”
The beautiful velvet texture of the antlers indicates new growth. When we experience personal growth as individuals, sometimes it is difficult to recognize beauty in the experience. Many times growth seems like chaos. Yet, out of the chaos comes a new birth with its own beauty.

“Peaceful Valley”
This scene expresses both serenity and contentment. However, the rear view also clearly identifies the magnitude of the antlers. Yes, elk are very impressive creatures. Enjoy!

“Nature’s Paintbrush”
How about this color in the middle of winter? This is the first in a series of “3″ sunset nature photographs taken last night. The color was glorious and magical. Of course, it made me wonder. If nature can create this color palette, what is our own creative capability? If I had a paintbrush each day to create my own canvas, my own world, what would it look like? If my thoughts and compassion directed each brush stroke, what could I create in my life and in my world? So, I challenge each of you … pick up your paintbrush, create your own magical beauty and be the inspiration.
