“Winter Photography #3″
Here are two additional reminders when photographing rivers and streams. Try viewing the image in a verticle position while holding your camera . Also, look for “S Curves” as the river is flowing for interesting and creative composition. Hope these are helpful.

“Winter Photography #2

Reflections in water can also make stunning photographs. Again, sometimes we forget to look for these compositions during winter. I hope that you are inspired to look with “new eyes” during the winter and see as creatively as you do during the summer.

“Winter Photography #1″
Winter subject matter can be both interesting and creative. Consider snow and ice as patterns and abstract formations. Remember to take your camera on winter walks and hikes. Try to keep your camera warm so as not to drain the batteries.

“The Warmth of Amber-color Lighting”
The warming tone of amber-color lighting can occur early morning and later evening. It does not last long, so one must hope, be awe-inspired when it does occur and be disciplined enough to pursue the photograph in the moment. So, how does this relate to life in general?
If we…start each day with hope, be awe-inspired with what unfolds before us and be disciplined enough to live in the moment…well, I guess we will see and be the radiance of peace.

“Pristine and Etheric”
Capturing early morning light for the nature photographer is a challenge, yet gratifying. Clouds can contribute a special essence to a nature photograph that is pristine and etheric. In this particular image, I metered the sky. By doing so, the landscape was darkened to become the secondary aspect of the image - like an etching of mountains. This truly is inspirational photography.

“Sunrise Photography”
Observing sunrise is like greeting an opportunity for new beginnings. Here in Lyons, sunrise during the fall is spectacular. When metering the sunrise in landscape photography, place your meter on a spot in the sky that is not the brightest dynamic. It is also a good idea to bracket your exposures. Nature photography provides many opportunities to experience light. In fact, it seems as though nature photographers are always chasing the light.

“Animal Portraits”
Being in the right place at the right time is the first criteria for wildlife photography. This was taken early morning in Canada, near Banff. Actually, I was photographing several of these goats and one wandered close-by for this extraordinary portrait. I was using my 80-200 Nikon lens and a very low f-stop (probably 2.8 or 4) that created the blended, out-of-focus background. Notice that the “eye” is critically sharp which is a key element for outstanding animal portraits.

“In Loving Memory…Nikki, Essence of Love”
Sometimes nature photography can be about the nature of relationship. With this photograph, I wish to acknowledge the relationship between myself and my beloved husky, Nikki. Her recent passing is still a source of extreme grief for me as I feel that I have lost my child and best friend. So, with deep love, I share the following tribute for my beloved companion:
To my kindred spirit, friend and loyal companion…
Your beauty amazes me.
Your courage inspires me.
Your journey here on earth provided love, healing, compassion and joy.
You have touched hearts, and live in hearts, forever.
We are one. We are one.
Nikki, you are so loved.
