“The Eyes of Puppy Love”

  husky puppy

When photographing animals, it is good to focus on the “eyes.”  This photograph has a shallow depth of field.  This means I was using a low F-stop (lower than F 5.6) to achieve the soft, out-of-focus background.  There is also nice side lighting in this photograph.  Enjoy!

“The Warmth of Amber-color Lighting”

 Amber color lighting

The warming tone of amber-color lighting can occur early morning and later evening.  It does not last long, so one must hope, be awe-inspired when it does occur and be disciplined enough to pursue the photograph in the moment.  So, how does this relate to life in general?

If we…start each day with hope, be awe-inspired with what unfolds before us and be disciplined enough to live in the momentwell, I guess we will see and be the radiance of peace.

“Pristine and Etheric”

Early morning - Bohn Park

Capturing early morning light for the nature photographer is a challenge, yet gratifying.  Clouds can contribute a special essence to a nature photograph that is pristine and etheric.  In this particular image, I metered the sky.  By doing so, the landscape was darkened to become the secondary aspect of the image – like an etching of mountains.  This truly is inspirational photography.

“Sunrise Photography”

 sunrise in lyons

Observing sunrise is like greeting an opportunity for new beginnings.  Here in Lyons, sunrise during the fall is spectacular.  When metering the sunrise in landscape photography, place your meter on a spot in the sky that is not the brightest dynamic.  It is also a good idea to bracket your exposures.  Nature photography provides many opportunities to experience light.  In fact, it seems as though nature photographers are always chasing the light.

“September in Colorado #3″

aspens in colorado

I am from the east coast and when I moved to Colorado, I wondered if I would miss the fall foliage of Connecticut and the New England area.  To my surprise, I have fallen in love with the aspens and enjoy the bright color.  They make a mountain look quite joyful and happy – just to be.  Since the sky was less interesting in this photograph, notice that I have reduced it to a small segment of the photograph.  Nature and photography are a wonderful combination for visual impact.  Enjoy!

Aspens

The area around Twin Lakes, CO, has 14,000 high peaks.  Here is the beautiful splendor of  the golden aspens reminding us in an awe-inspiring way to respect and honor nature.  For my photo technique for depth of field, check out the below post “September in Colorado #3.”

“September in Colorado #1″

I was able to do a fall excursion in Colorado with my sister.  We traveled to Leadville, Twin Lakes, Independence Pass, Aspen and Buena Vista.  I could not resist sharing some of my photographs with the golden aspens in bloom and the magnificence of the 14,000 high mountains.  All of these landscape photographs were taken with a tripod and high F-stop (F-16) for maximum depth of field.  Of course, lighting with nature photography is of the essence and I was blessed one morning with nice cloud formations for a special effect.
